Post Menopause Symptoms

Post menopause is the time in a woman’s life after her final menstrual period, regardless of whether menopause was natural or induced. In women who have no uterus, and therefore have no periods, post-menopause can be determined by a blood test which can reveal the very high levels of Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) that are typical of post-menopausal women. Post menopause lasts until the rest of a woman’s life. Pregnancy is no longer possible.

Perimenopause Symptoms Diminish

Hormone levels continue to drop and fluctuate for some time into post menopause before finding a new balance at a permanently low level. As the hormones even out, many of the distressing perimenopause symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, and mood swings gradually ease for most women. The transition to menopause is a process. For most women menopause is a relief and time of relative calm after the physical and emotional havoc of perimenopause.

Post Menopause Symptoms

Once you hit postmenopause, you may regain your energy and feel emotionally normal once again, but you may also experience different degrees of many of the following symptoms:

  • Bone Fragility (Osteoporosis) – Fractures and Bone Pain
  • Sexual Problems
  • Urethritis & Cystitis
  • Stress Incontinence – involuntary leaking of urine when coughing, sneezing, laughing or lifting
  • Decreased Skin Elasticity
  • Facial Hair Growth
  • Vaginal and Vulva Dryness, Itching, and Burning
  • High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)

Post Menopause Zest

Many women experience a new sense of freedom and energy after menopause. The heavy bleeding and hot flashes end. No more Kotex pads or Tampax, PMS, or cramps! No more worry about pregnancy. No more child bearing or raising. The stormy mood swings give way to relative calm.

Menopause may be the end of the second cycle of life; but it is also the beginning of another. As Dr. Christiane Northrup wrote in her book, “Menopause is an unparalleled opportunity to turn your life around and create a firm foundation for the most fulfilling, healthy, joy-filled years of life.”

Be wise. Be well.

I’m 10 years past menopause and I’m still having hot flashes! I thought they were supposed to stop by now. What can I do? It’s awful and exhausting.
